The paper bird story

This modern fable pieces together the story of Anjay, a young boy who lives in the crumbling concrete of urban poverty, but dreams of attracting song birds to his window. Following instructions from a book and scouring the street for materials, he constructs a bird feeder, yet the birds never come. His Parents make origami birds and tie them to the feeder.
Years later, the adult Anjay gives some paper birds to his friends as Christmas presents. They know the significance of the birds, but insist he does not tell them the story again.
The piece is about the paradoxes of dreams: their delicacy and their strength; the gaps they fill, but the lacunae they create; their futility, but also their importance.
